Dirt Road to Lafayette is a coming of age road movie set against the backdrop of the Cajun and Zydeco music scene in Louisiana. Its about a 17 year old Scottish boy (Murdo) who comes to America with his Dad (Tom) following the death of his mother. Murdo's mother has taught him the accordion and he is a very accomplished player. He hasn't picked up his instrument since his Mum passed away however. On arrival in America Murdo is fascinated by the different musical styles and cultures he encounters and he embarks on a remarkable musical journey. Murdo's first encounter is with legendary Zydeco Queen Monzee-ay. Queen Monzee-ay is so impressed by Murdo's ability that she asks him to come and play with her at the Festival International de Louisiane in Lafayette. When Murdo approaches his Dad to ask permission to play with the band Tom refuses point blank. The more Murdo immerses himself in the music the more conflict arises between father and son.
